THE VOLCANO
The volcano in Santorini is an Island by itself, and this is the result of volcanic activity in prehistoric times.
The last major eruption of a volcano dates back to the late Bronze Age, 3600 years ago.
The most recent eruption occurred in 1950.
It offers visitors the opportunity to reach the interior of a volcano by boat
MAJOR TOWNS
Fira and its extension Firostefani are elongated villages built along the cliff with a wonderful view of the Caldera.
Imerovigli, this town is only 2 km from Fira. Due to its location it was a perfect spot for surveying the wider area to alert the inhabitants of a pirate attack. Here you are able to see the famous Skaros which was a castle once upon a time. It is a beautiful Village that combines the Cosmopolitan and the peaceful aspects of life.
IA or OIA
It is situated at 11 km from fira in the Northwest side of the island and welcomes the visit is with the its unique combination of colors and magnificent and magical landscape. Visitors Marvel at its peculiar architecture two stories bright colored houses dug in the lava give a special character the settlement. It's Central streets are paved with marble instead of a cobblestone so common in the rest of the island. The amazing sunset with a view of a volcano and the sea, the picturesque shops and the gardens of the house is blend harmoniously to charm even the most demanding visitor.
AKROTIRI
This Village is on the south side of the island. There is an archaeological site there which have excavations which began in 1967. By the archaeologist Spiros Marinatos to verify the theory that the destruction of the Minoan Civilization was due to the eruption of the volcano on Santorini. The area of the excavations is a unique Place most of the findings are monuments to be admired for their beauty, AKROTIRI is a civilization buried in ashes.
KAMARI & PERISSA
Both of these villages on the southwest side of the island that have lot of water sports, entertainment, dining, hotels.
The beaches on these Villages have blacks sand and so it's very very hot.
BEACHES
To the north you have.
BAXEDES,KOLOUMBOS,PORI,ARMENI and the famous AMOUDI with it's nice fish restaurants with the stunning little island of St. NIKOLAOS.
To the southeast you have.
MONOLITHOS,AVIS, and KAMARI, PERISSA and PERIVOLOS.
To the southern part of the island.
VLYCHADA,RED BEACH,WHITE BEACH and MESA PIGADIA .
